Spelling Schedule
Using a different approach to spelling, we will accommodate students' abilities week to week. They each have a Spelling Folder that will stay at school, but will bring home weekly lists. In theory, no two students will ever have the same two lists. Here is how it works...
- All will take a 20 word Pre-test on the first day of the week. (usually Monday)
- Any words they get correct on the pre-test will get highlighted and will be considered 'mastered'.
- The incorrect words will go on their list, and they will choose the remainder of their 20 words from an alternatives/challenge list.
- They will then write out a list that is to go home, and a list that stays at school.
- They will be responsible for spelling activities (chosen at school by them) and have them turned in by the final test, which will generally be on Fridays. They will have spelling partners for this.
- After I correct the final tests, any words they still got incorrect will go back on their list the next week, or until they 'master' it.
- Dictation tests will occur after each spelling unit to reinforce correct usage. (usually one or two per trimester)
Vocabulary Schedule
This is something new in 6th grade and it takes the students a few times to get the hang of it.

- Units are done in two week cycles.
- Week 1-current unit notecards are due on Thursday.
- Week 2-corresponding pages due Thursday, with the Unit quiz Friday.
